One of my January intentions was to have Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) every day. I’m sure some of you would agree with me that ACV is a pretty intense. I’ll be honest with you I didn’t think I could do it. Before January I would DREAD taking a shot of ACV. It made my whole body shutter. Ok, maybe a bit dramatic but not too far off.
But I am here to tell you that I did it! EVERY single day I had ACV in some form.
When I decided to make it one of my January intentions I thought some days I would suck it up and take a shot. I assumed most days I would make a salad dressing or a tea with lemon and honey. To my surprise 97% I was shooting it first thing in the morning. I made tea out of it twice but I found it was easier just to take a shot. I know some of you are thinking it, I diluted it with water. I used Braggs unfiltered ACV (you can pop over to my amazon store to get it), I would but about 1-2 tbs with 1-2 tbs of water and always had more water (plain) waiting for me to chase it. Sometimes I had a spoonful of peanut butter.
ACV is intense and super acidic, I don’t recommend taking it straight. It essentially burns away germs and can harm your teeth if taking too much of it straight. Dilute it with some water to balance it out and make it more gentle on your body.
At the beginning of the month it was tough BUT I am happy to report that I can now take it without having such strong reactions and no need for my PB chaser.
I started to notice some changes and positive affects of my morning shots. As the month went on I noticed more. It is because of these changes I am still going strong with my shots every morning. These are my experiences, I’m sure everyone will find something different for themselves. I encourage you to give it a shot (pun intended).
Here are my top 5 discoveries
1. Less Bloating and Gas
If you know me or have spent any time with me in person you know that I can burp pretty well. Let’s just say that I have been challenged and won many burping contests. I’m pretty proud of it.. however I don’t really like the stomach bloating that goes along with it. After just a week of ACV in the morning I noticed that I wasn’t burping as much. I noticed a flatter tummy; less bloat. Win win, except for the burping contests.
2. Regular Trips to The Porcelain Thrown
POOP! I don’t drink coffee so I’ve never experienced the coffee router rooter but I would bet that ACV could do the same. To spare you details you might not want to hear I’ll leave it at that… regularity.
3. Healthier Skin
I have been blessed with relatively healthy skin, it's very dry but not a lot of blemishes. Recently I have been doing work to balance my hormones (joy) because of this I have noticed that I have been getting a couple blemishes (thanks hormones) here and there. I was traveling in January and most of the month I was in California. Typically when I go back to Cali my skin gets dry fast and I have allergies like crazy the first few days. Except for this trip! I didn’t have allergies, no blemishes and didn’t experience dry skin.
4. Softer Hair
A couple weeks in to my ACV adventure I touched my hair and thought “dang what did I do to my hair? Its so soft!”. It took me a couple days to connect the dots; nothing had really changed expect for my ACV shots. I’ll take it! I don’t do much to take care of my hair… like brush it so it gets tangled easily. Not anymore thanks to ACV!
5. More Energy
My increase energy could have been a number of reasons BUT I was busy in school and wasn’t getting much sleep. Usually a recipe to be low energy. Most days I didn’t need an extra cup of tea in the afternoon. I actually found myself running around campus burning energy because I had too much (true story). My activity level was lower than normal so maybe I just had more energy in the reserve tank but I believe my ACV shots where playing a part.
ACV is great for so many different reasons, not just for ingesting.
It has been known as a
natural toner by mixing it with water and applying it to your face. And to take the itch away from bug bites.
I haven’t tried this but it makes sense; kill the germs and burn away the itch. Some people use it in their hair as a mask or a homemade shampoo. Haven’t tried this either, I’m not ready to make my own hair products but I’ll keep it in mind!
I strongly encourage everyone to give it a go! I recommend putting a bottle in a place where you will see it every morning for a shot. I know some people who keep it at work and have a shot after work to aid with digestion. It doesn’t have to be first thing in the morning to get benefits I just found it was easiest to ensure I didn’t go on with my day and forget.
